Modeligo National School Distance Learning Safety Statement

A Statement regarding Staying Safe in the Distance Learning Environment

In Modeligo National School, it is imperative that the whole school community uses the World Wide Web safely.

Teachers place great importance on maintaining the safe and ethical use of the Internet during distance learning and wish to support parents/guardians in being aware of their role also. All teachers will keep pupils' personal data safe when working from home and follow the school's data protection policy (GDPR) around the use of email. Teachers will only use closed, trusted networks or cloud services for class/pupil conferencing and communication.

Teachers will comply with any rules and procedures about cloud, app or network access, login details and data sharing.

Parents/legal guardians understand that they are allowing their children to access the Internet for educational purposes and that their children are under their direct supervision whilst doing so, for safety reasons. Pupils too should use the Internet in a responsible way and obey all restrictions set by their parents/guardians.

Every reasonable precaution has been taken by the school to provide for online safety but the school cannot be held responsible if students access unsuitable websites or material.

Parents may like to consider how the Internet is used in their own home, and explore ways in which they can maximise safety for their own family.

All stakeholders will work together to enjoy the benefits of online learning whilst also ensuring the highest levels of safety at all times.

This statement was ratified by the Board of Management in September 2021.
